Role Description
Dropbox is looking for a Workday Extend Developer who combines technical mastery with a keen eye for visual design to join our People Technology team. This role is pivotal in designing, developing, and implementing scalable Workday Extend applications that deliver both enhanced functionality and an intuitive, visually stunning user experience.
You will work closely with cross-functional teams to translate business objectives into technical solutions while creating customer-facing features that are engaging, accessible, and easy to use. The ideal candidate combines deep expertise in Workday Extend development with a strong foundation in graphic design and user interface principles. Candidates should have:
- Extensive knowledge of web service technologies (GraphQL, REST, SOAP, JSON, XML).
- Expertise in authentication and authorization methods (OAuth, JWT, WS-Security, SAML).
- A solid understanding of visual design principles to ensure seamless, user-friendly application interfaces.
Responsibilities
- Build and deploy Workday Extend applications that are scalable, visually intuitive, and aligned with business objectives, ensuring both functionality and exceptional user experience.
- Translate complex business needs into creative, forward-thinking solutions by combining technical expertise with strategic insights.
- Prototype and develop user-facing features with a strong emphasis on clean, accessible design and crisp communication, ensuring interfaces are not only functional but also engaging.
- Partner with cross-functional teams, including HR, IT, Finance, and other stakeholders to align on requirements, lead discovery calls, share insights, and drive customer-first solutions.
- Step up to challenges in a dynamic environment by quickly pivoting to changing requirements or priorities while maintaining focus on long-term goals.
- Design, build, and deploy Workday Extend applications tailored to business requirements, ensuring high performance and scalability.
- Develop and manage integrations using Workday Extend APIs, Workday Studio, and other Workday tools to ensure data accuracy and seamless functionality across systems.
- Create custom solutions using Workday Extend to address specific business needs, enhancing the capabilities of Workday modules such as HCM, Benefits, Time Tracking and Absence etc.
- Investigate and resolve technical issues related to existing Workday Extend applications and integrations, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
- Maintain detailed documentation for all Workday Extend solutions, including design specifications, testing plans, and deployment strategies.
- Monitor Workday’s bi-annual updates to identify new Extend capabilities and determine their applicability to the organization.
- Provide training, enablement, and technical support to internal teams for newly developed Workday Extend applications.
Requirements
- Portfolio showcasing custom applications and development in Extend or other tools.
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience with Workday tools and technologies, including at least 2 years specializing in Workday Extend application development.
- Strong knowledge of Workday Extend, Workday Studio, APIs, and web services (REST/SOAP).
- Proficiency in object-oriented programming languages (e.g., Java, JavaScript) and experience with JSON, XML, and XSLT.
- Hands-on experience in developing Workday integrations using Workday Studio, EIB, and RaaS.
- Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues within the Workday ecosystem.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills with a focus on maintaining high levels of accuracy and consistency in solutions.
- 4+ years of experience with data migration, integration development, report building, or software development.
- 4+ years of experience with technical consulting, requirements gathering, or solution design.
- Excellent presentation skills and superb communication capability.
- Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical teams.
- A problem solver, with a passion for delivering outstanding levels of customer service.
- Ability to balance multiple projects with customer commitments simultaneously.
- Experience implementing Platform-as-a-Service and/or custom web applications, including (ideally) implementing Workday solutions using Human Capital Management.
- Experience taking a leadership role within a software, system, or application implementation.
- Advanced understanding of the complete software implementation lifecycle - including collecting requirements, design, development, testing, and move to production.
Preferred Qualifications
- Workday certification(s) in Workday Extend and/or Workday Integrations are highly desirable.
- Familiarity with agile development methodologies and product lifecycle management.
- Proven ability to innovate and implement creative solutions to optimize Workday’s functionality.
- Experience working in a global organization with diverse and geographically dispersed teams.
- Experience in partnering with IT to develop end to end technology solutions within and outside of Workday.
