About the Role
Ontra is seeking a Software Engineering Manager reporting to our Director of Engineering.
For this job, we are currently only hiring candidates based in the United States.
The role is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys being hands-on while leading a team of software engineers. If you are interested in not only designing solutions but also shaping the software development culture for a growing team, this role would be a great fit. This position will oversee a team responsible for our product foundations and common services such as our framework libraries

What You'll Do

  • Lead: Oversee a team of engineers to distribute tickets, ensure projects are completed on time and help develop our engineers' skills and progress their careers
  • Plan: Working with our Product team to gather and break down requirements and strategizing on how to execute them
  • Scale: Collaborate with product managers and architects to define the technical strategy for product foundation, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives
  • Evangelize: Assist in guiding the development of engineering culture and best practices
  • Collaborate: Partner with other engineering teams to provide foundational services, tools, and libraries that streamline the development process and improve product quality


What You'll Bring

  • Experience: 7+ years of experience as an individual contributor and preferably 2+ years of technical leadership in a high growth, scaling company
  • Technical skill set: Experience with Ruby on Rails and React
  • Technical leadership: A history in breaking down requirements, designing solutions, and providing leadership to team-level projects
  • Team player: Ability to lead a team as well as work alongside them
  • Soft skills: Great communication skills, an empathetic approach to teamwork, and the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced development environment


Pay TransparencyOntra takes individual candidate location, experience, and skills into consideration when determining compensation. The base pay range is listed below. Additionally, all positions are eligible for unit-based equity grants.
Some positions may be eligible for additional compensation, such as commission or other variable compensation structures, which is not included in the below base pay range.

Base Pay Range
$176,000 - $264,000 USD
