At uShip, we’re a small but mighty data team looking for a Data Analytics Engineer to join our mission of building smarter, data-driven solutions. In this role, you’ll wear two hats: crafting robust data pipelines to keep our information flowing smoothly and diving deep into analysis to uncover trends that fuel our growth. It’s a role that bridges the gap between raw data wrangling and actionable insights, requiring both coding chops and a knack for problem-solving.   • Data Engineering & Transformation:
    • Design and implement ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to clean, organize, and prepare data for analysis.
    • Develop and optimize complex data transformation workflows using SQL, Python, Estuary and other transformation tools. 
    • Work with large datasets to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and integrity.
  • Database Development (PostgreSQL):
    • Develop and maintain PostgreSQL databases, including the design of tables, views, and indexes for optimized query performance.
    • Write efficient SQL queries for data extraction, aggregation, and transformation.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve database performance issues.
  • Data Visualization (Metabase):
    • Set up and maintain Metabase dashboards and reports for key stakeholders.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand reporting needs and translate them into actionable visualizations.
    • Automate reporting and insights generation via Metabase.
  • Collaboration & Reporting:
    • Work closely with analytics team members, data engineers, developers, product owners, and business stakeholders to understand their data needs and deliver actionable insights.
    • Write clear documentation for data processes, code, and reports to ensure transparency and reproducibility.

Qualifications

  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong proficiency in SQL, with experience in PostgreSQL for database design, management, and optimization.
    • Solid understanding of Python for data processing and transformation tasks.
    • Experience with Metabase for building interactive dashboards, reports, and data visualizations.
    • Experience in data modeling, ETL pipelines, and data integration.
  • Experience:
    • 3+ years of experience working in a data analytics role.
    • Proven experience in data transformation and creating scalable data workflows.
    • Experience working with large datasets and high-performance databases.
    • Familiarity with AWS Sagemaker and data science development best practices. 
    • Familiarity with cloud data platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
    • Experience using GitHub and a CI/CD pipeline
    • Experience with other data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
    • Knowledge of version control systems (e.g., Git).
  • Soft Skills:
    • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and in a team.
    • Good communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.


Onboarding

  • First 30 Days: Onboarding & Internal Knowledge Absorption
    • Understand company data, systems, and workflows.
    • Build relationships with key stakeholders.
    • Set up your development environment and learn the tools.
  • Days 31-60: Implementation and Optimization
    • Manage data engineering and analytics tasks.
    • Build new ETL pipelines and data transformation workflows.
    • Improve data reporting and visualization in Metabase.
  • Days 61-90: Ownership and Strategic Initiatives
    • Own key data engineering and analytics workflows.
    • Find and implement data scalability and performance improvements.
    • Collaborate across functions and generate proactive insights.


Location: Austin, TX 78701, remote or hybrid optional team environment

Salary:  $120-150k base salary ($140-170k estimated total comp)
