Freese and Nichols is searching for a Traffic Engineer to join our Transportation Planning team in one of our Texas offices. This candidate will use their knowledge of the general concepts of civil, transportation, and traffic engineering in developing transportation design and planning solutions. 

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • The development and design of traffic engineering projects, preparing traffic studies, signal timing plans, operations analyses, microsimulation modeling, and preparing technical reports.
  • Preparing project plans and drawings for various projects including traffic signal design and intersection improvements. 
  • Perform research, obtain traffic data for studies, prepare calculations, and conduct transportation analyses.
  • Preparing and collaborating technical activities on assigned projects and managing project budget and schedule. 
  • Perform field work as directed by a senior engineer.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in civil or transportation engineering

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the state of Texas

  • 3+ years of experience

  • Basic experience using MicroStation and/or AutoCAD, Synchro, VISSIM and TRANSCAD

  • Familiar with concepts and standards of the MUTCD, HCM and AASHTO Geometric Design

  • Ability to participate and collaborate within a project team setting

  • Self-directed and ability to complete assigned tasks with minimal oversight

  • Solid time and budget management, organizational, and problem-solving skills

  • Strong communication and technical writing skills

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) applications and design
