Technical Program Manager

 

uShip is hiring a Technical Program Manager to drive the execution and delivery of multiple large-scale, technical projects while being flexible enough to operate effectively in ambiguous situations. You will have a direct hand in ensuring seamless project execution through your proficiency with Agile methods & programs and experience using project management tools. We’re looking for a candidate who is able to manage stakeholder relationships and ensure projects maintain alignment with business objectives.

Beyond your focus on people and product delivery, you will help us transform and modernize a logistics platform and its underlying legacy architecture. As a champion of product vision, strategy, and roadmap, you must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills to document and communicate project commitments, progress status, issues, risks, and mitigation plans to leadership. An ideal candidate will demonstrate strong collaboration skills, a proactive problem-solving approach, and the ability to build relationships and influence both internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of technical program or project management experience
  • Possesses a deep understanding of Agile Methodology and Program Management, and approaches everything with a Product Owner mindset
  • Proven experience in strategy, large-scale execution, innovation, and working cross-functionally with operations and engineering teams
  • Ability to implement scalable process improvements and leverage data-driven insights to inform business decisions
  • Ability to communicate and justify the need for change
  • Ability to influence cross-functional teams and leaders 
  • Ability to think analytically and solve problems from various angles
  • Maintains excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills to effectively work with a wide spectrum of stakeholders
  • Ability to communicate expectations and requirements with business and technology teams 
  • Possesses strong analytical, storytelling, and reporting skills
  • Ability to write well-reasoned, data-driven proposals
  • Experience working in ambiguous, fast-moving environments 
  • Ability to self-motivate and use best judgment to determine how to work across multiple projects and tasks


Responsibilities

  • Lead multiple complex, multi-disciplinary projects from start to finish, manage stakeholder relationships, manage project schedules, identify risks, and communicate clearly with cross-functional partners across the company to ensure alignment with business objectives
  • Develop thoughtful program strategies, while also directly managing hands-on execution for the portfolio of projects supported
  • Solve complex problems by monitoring and understanding current processes and associated pain-points and think creatively to propose innovative solutions
  • Utilize a data-driven approach to track successes and improvement opportunities while establishing methods for ensuring consistency and quality over time
  • Foster a culture of collaboration and open communication, effectively navigate organizational change, and drive continuous improvement
  • Establish a reliable and visible cadence for program reviews, decision-making, prioritization, and resource stewardship, whereby improvements such as efficiency and utilization gains are measurable and the impact can be felt organization-wide
  • Lead at the strategic level and also lead tactically day-to-day by diving deeply into business and technical domains


Onboarding 

  • First 30 Days: Foundation Building
    • Stakeholder mapping: Identify key stakeholders, understand their needs and expectations, and establish communication channels
    • Program overview: Gain a comprehensive understanding of the program goals, scope, timeline, budget, and dependencies
    • Team introductions: Meet with team members, understand their roles and responsibilities, and assess team dynamics
    • Process review: Analyze existing program management tools, methodologies, and documentation
    • Risk assessment: Identify potential project risks and develop mitigation strategies
  • Days 31-60: Planning & Coordination
    • Detailed program plan: Develop a comprehensive program plan with clear milestones, deliverables, timelines, and resource allocation
    • Communication strategy: Establish regular communication channels with stakeholders, including program status updates and reporting mechanisms
    • Metrics definition: Identify key performance indicators (KPIs) to track progress and measure success
    • Dependency management: Proactively manage dependencies between different project teams and workstreams
    • Change management process: Establish a process for managing program scope changes and communicating updates to stakeholders
  • Days 61-90: Execution & Improvement
    • Program execution: Monitor program progress against the plan, identify issues, and implement corrective actions
    • Quality assurance: Ensure program deliverables meet quality standards and requirements
    • Continuous improvement: Identify areas for improvement within the program process and implement changes based on feedback
    • Post-project review: Conduct a thorough project retrospective to capture lessons learned and best practices for future projects
    • Team development: Foster a collaborative team environment and promote knowledge sharing

Location: Austin, TX 78701, remote or hybrid optional team environment

Salary:  $110-140k base salary ($130-160k estimated total comp)
