Staff Software Engineer, Internal Platform Infrastructure, Networking
About the team
The HashiCorp Platform Infrastructure team is responsible for providing hosted environments that meet the security and compliance needs of the cloud products. We make use of cloud providers and our own HashiCorp products to build our internal platform, creating tight feedback loops with the product development teams. Our focus is to provide opinionated and easy infrastructure offerings that scale through the use of systems and software.
This team involves a product-mindset applied to infrastructure, bringing software engineering, infrastructure engineering, and SRE practices together. This team partners closely with product management, security, compliance, and product teams to enable secure and rapid development of the platform.
About the role
This role brings a focus on networking and security to design, implement, and maintain the organization's infrastructure. This role requires a deep understanding of enterprise-level networking solutions, including LAN, WAN, VPN, firewalls, and network security. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the availability, performance, and security of our network systems while driving innovation in the network architecture to support business growth. Using a depth of experience, this role has mastered multiple methods of influence and collaboration to deliver solutions aligned with business goals. Applicants would be comfortable playing a mix of roles, including technical vision, product guidance and support, software development, partnering with other engineering teams, and mentorship.
What you’ll do (responsibilities)
- Be responsible for designing and implementing a scalable, secure, and high-performing infrastructure system, with a focus on network and security
- Conduct network performance tuning and capacity planning to support future growth
- Define the technical roadmap for teams to execute against
- Ensure infrastructure solutions comply with industry standards, company policies, and security requirements
- Establish and maintain governance controls over infrastructure resources to ensure they meet security and regulatory requirements
- Monitor infrastructure systems for potential security risks or policy violations and lead the remediation efforts to address any issues
- Implement tools and practices for identity and access management (IAM), ensuring that proper authorization and authentication measures are in place
- Maintain detailed technical documentation of infrastructure architectures, standards, and procedures
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to the organization and ensure that knowledge is shared across teams
- Build successful partnerships with various leaders and functions across HashiCorp
What you’ll need (basic qualifications)
- You have a minimum of 7 years experience in designing and delivering enterprise cloud infrastructure networking and security solutions
- You have hands-on experience with firewall management, VPN solutions, and security technologies
- You develop software to deliver infrastructure solutions
- You have demonstrable problem solving skills and can successfully navigate ambiguity and complexity
- You lead with empathy and focus on growing those around you
- You have worked with remote teams
What's nice to have (preferred qualifications)
- Deep understanding and practical experience of network architecture, design, and operations in complex, high-availability environments
- Proficiency with network monitoring, management, and automation tools
- Expertise in identity and access management solutions, encryption, and infrastructure security controls
- Passion for automation; creating leverage through software development
- Successfully delivered operational improvements to complex infrastructure/software
- A product-minded approach to delivering infrastructure and platforms

Individual pay within the range will be determined based on job related-factors such as skills, experience, and education or training.
The base pay range for this role in the SF Bay Area / NYC area is:
$246,200—$289,600 USD
The base pay range for this role in California (excluding SF Bay Area), New York (excluding NYC), Seattle Metro, Denver / Boulder Metro, Washington D.C., or Maryland is:
$225,600—$265,400 USD
The base pay range for this role in Colorado (excluding Denver / Boulder Metro), Illinois, Minnesota, or Washington (excluding Seattle Metro) is:
$205,100—$241,300 USD
