The role:

eBay is looking for a seasoned payments strategy professional that will lead cost of payments optimization and insights for the payments business. You will be part of the Cost of Payments and Strategy team that drives critical initiatives and business insights for the payments organization. You will bring both process and content leadership to strategic projects and act as the primary point person for product and finance teams for payments strategy. The ideal candidate has a track record of making pragmatic, concrete recommendations with real world implementation experience. It is critical for the role that the candidate has strong analytics, critical thinking and is excellent in developing creative/ out-of-the-box and well-thought-out solutions for challenging business problems.

Responsibilities

• Payments Strategy: Develop payments strategies to optimize and reduce cost of payments for financial services business at eBay.

• Scope: Cost of payments strategies covering credit and debit cards, payment wallets, bank payments, alt-pays, payments processing, cross-border trade and seller payments.

• Planning: In close partnership with product, partnerships, finance and risk partners, create a three to five year plan on cost of payment optimization initiatives that support the long-term strategy; including product and service offerings, experiences and capabilities; partner with key partners to ensure that execution is in alignment with the strategy. Work with PMO teams to ensure project alignment, resourcing and scheduling of the critical initiatives. 

• Critical initiatives: Create base cases for cost reduction initiatives and inform the thinking via discussions with cross-functional partners, tracking industry trends with a view to create best-in-class cost optimization framework for eBay.

• Support: Provide assistance to partnerships and business development team in their contract negotiations and provide both strategic and analytic inputs to them as needed, by closely working with the reporting and insights team. Collaborate with the partnerships team in helping monitor and track contract compliance with-respect-to cost of payment implications (e.g. PIN-less debit, dues and assessments etc.). Provide assistance to the finance team on budget submissions and quarterly forecasting cycles, and to partnerships and business development team in their contract negotiations and provide both strategic and analytic inputs to them as needed - by closely working with the business analytics team. 

• Monitoring: In close collaboration with the reporting and dashboards team, build out the vision for comprehensive tracking and monitoring mechanisms for cost of payments for payments business at eBay.

• Updates: Provide regular updates to the payments organization leaders around key trends and troubleshoot instances where there was a sudden change in 

• Card network mandates: Be the primary point of contact to assess impact on cost of payments resulting from bi-annual card network mandate changes in April and October.

Qualification and Experience

• Proven leader with at 8-10 years of overall experience and at least 7-8 years of experience in the payment/financial services industry– preferably 2-3 years at a top strategy consulting firm

• Bachelor degree required; MBA or equivalent preferred

• Has in-depth knowledge cost-of-payments drivers, and is well-versed with data elements that are critical in driving cost of payments 

• Proven track record in driving data-driven payments strategies, especially in cost-of-payments and proficient in leading execution of key initiatives.

• Proficient in knowledge of network interchange fee programs, has thorough understanding of cost of payments, including payment processor and acquirer reports. 

• Comfortable managing with ambiguity and able to drive in a highly cross-functional and fast-paced environment

• Strong ability to influence partners, lead key meetings with large groups and drive decision-making. 

• Must possess a high level of responsibility and accountability 

• Self-starter with the ability to work independently

The applicable base pay range for this position is dependent on work location. The base pay range in the San Francisco Bay Area, New York City Metro and Seattle Metro is expected in the range below:

$150,400 - $200,800

The base pay range for all other U.S. work locations is expected in the range below: 

$115,200 - $184,200

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
