The Role

Description
Workplace Classification:
Hybrid: This position allows an employee to work off-site on Mondays and Fridays. This position requires an employee to be onsite 3 times per week ( Tues-Thurs) .
Locations: Concord, NC; Milford, MI; Roswell, GA
The Team:
GM's Motorsports IT team analyzes, defines, and delivers the next generation of cutting-edge Motorsports IT software solutions. Leveraging both state of the art cloud-based infrastructure and software development standards, these solutions enable innovative interactions between GM Motorsports and the GM race teams that win races! Our combined GMIT team of analysts, architects, developers, data engineers, testers, and project managers work closely with GM race teams to ensure delivery of break-through technologies for NASCAR, IndyCar, IMSA and other competitive motorsport groups!
The Role:
For this developer role within General Motors, you are responsible for developing software applications using sound, repeatable, industry standard methodologies. You will work hands-on writing software solutions, based on requirements and system specifications.
Responsibilities:

  • Rapid development of new software solutions to address a specific motorsport needs or solve a particular business problem.
  • Contributing to all development activities in accordance with appropriate methodologies and application of a repeatable, systematic, and quantifiable approach to the development process.
  • Passion for further developing your skills independently or by working closely with other developers
  • Experience developing enterprise-grade applications in Java, Springboot, React.js, and SQL among other tools.
  • Performance tuning, usability assessment/improvement
  • Integrating software with existing software/systems
  • Experience writing unit tests of software systems within their domain
  • Engaging in the remediation of software issues related to code/solutions quality and/or security
  • Providing guidance and mentoring of fellow software developers and other team members
  • System design and user documentation
  • Ensuring that the technical documentation meets GM standards
  • Working in a Team-based environment
  • Proficiency in build/release automation solutions.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science
  • Minimum 5 years of professional software development experience
  • Strong background in Java
  • Self-starter and quick learner who understands and can adapt to existing software application and computing infrastructures
  • Strong background in software/application development lifecycle
  • Strong background with programming in Java, Spring, React.JS, CSS, SQL and Microservices.
  • Crafting self-contained, reusable, and testable modules and components in back-end technologies: Docker, Kubernetes, Azure Cloud Containers
  • Experience with networking and client-server communication (REST, web sockets, server-sent events)
  • Understanding messaging technologies such as Azure Event Service, Service Bus, Pulsar, Kafka, and/or other streaming applications/tools.
  • Ability to architect and implement scalable high availability solutions


Preferred Qualifications:
Experience or knowledge with some or all of the following tools would be a plus:

  • React.JS front end framework technologies
  • Strong background in building UI frameworks
  • Experience working with streaming telemetry or timing-based metrics
  • Previous IT experience within motorsports
