Job Summary

The Senior DevOps engineer will provide technical leadership to our team of DevOps Engineers. This role will provide coaching, mentorship, and training as well as shaping the technical road map and standards for iHerb’s DevOps team. This role will work closely with other Lead Developers in the organization to ensure proper support and alignment is in place to push new technologies to both front and back end services.

Job Expectations:

  • Work closely with the Engineering Operations teams to ensure proper security, infrastructure, and standards are in place 

  • Create new concepts and designs by collaborating with the DevOps Engineers and other Lead Developers

  • Coach and mentor the team on DevOps best practices (design, troubleshooting, work breakdown, work estimation, automated testing, etc.)

  • Work closely with the other teams (Developers and DBA team) to optimize system architecture and project efficiency

  • Partner with the Project Manager to plan work and prioritization

  • Guide DevOps team efforts towards successful project delivery.

  • Provide technical leadership to teammates through coaching and mentorship.

  • Provide regular updates on projects and team performance to Director of IT Operations

  • Identify and encourage areas for growth and improvement within the team.

  • Work closely with our NOC team to transfer knowledge on new tools or new services

  • Analyze and resolve technical and application problems.

  • Assess opportunities for process improvement and prepare documentation of rationale to share with team members and other affected parties.

  • Research and evaluate a variety of software products 

  • On call duties as needed

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Required:

  • Experience leading a team of System or DevOps Engineers

  • Full understanding and expert knowledge in tools and technologies such as CDN (Akamai, Cloudflare), DNS  GTM, DNS (Dyn, Cloudflare), Cloud base computing (WMS), Code Deployment (Octopus), Configuration Management (Ansible), etc

  • Experience with Linux

  • Expert in analyzing web traffic and identify problems and unusual trend

  • Skilled in organizing resources and establishing priorities.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to learn and support new systems and applications

  • Expert knowledge and Experience to work with high traffic websites, update, monitoring, and maintenance strategies.

  • Strong knowledge of HTTP protocol and IP concepts

  • Working knowledge of applications servers like SOLR, Redis, Docker

  • Experience writing shell scripts, php and other scripting languages

  • Strong knowledge of system architecture, best practices and design patterns 

  • Strong knowledge of design and implementation of distributed systems (SOA, Micro Services, Docker, …)

  • Expert knowledge of and ability to communicate system architecture and design principles

  • Proven track record being technical lead of DevOps projects from inception to successful release

  • Knowledge of source control systems

  • Accustomed with agile methodologies

  • Understanding of debugging, performance profiling and optimization

  • Strong initiative to find ways to improve solutions, systems, and processes

  • Familiar with E-Commerce

Experience Requirements:

  • Generally, requires a minimum of five (5) to ten (10) years of experience with DevOps 

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or Computer Science or related field preferred and/or years of experience

The anticipated pay scale for this position can be found below, however the pay range applicable to you may vary by geographic location based on where the job is located or where you work.  The final pay offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and years of experience within the job, the type of years and experience within the industry, education, etc.  iHerb, LLC is a multi-state employer and this pay scale may not reflect positions that work in other states or locations.

Employees will also be eligible for Time Off and Paid Sick Leave pursuant to the company’s policies. Hired applicant may be awarded Restrict Stock Units and receive annual bonuses pursuant to eligibility and performance criteria defined in the respective plan documents and policies.
