The Counsel for Leica Biosystems will support Leica Biosystems’ Core Histology and Mammotome business units and Global Operations and Supply Chain function. The Counsel will also from time to time support matters for other Leica Biosystems business units or functions, including Leica Biosystems’ Advanced Staining and Reagents business unit’s BU-direct sales function, and for the DHR Dx Platform generally.
This position is part of the globally distributed legal and compliance team, an inclusive, service-oriented team of approximately twenty attorneys, legal assistants, and other professionals, supporting Leica Biosystems’ $1.5+ billion global business, and will be fully remote. This is a broad and often complex role spanning multiple legal disciplines in a global environment. This role reports to the Assistant General Counsel and works directly with associates at all levels of the business, from individual contributors to senior leadership, in many different functional areas, including:
• Business Units (R&D, product management, etc.)
• Commercial (sales and marketing)
• Operations (supply chain, manufacturing, EH&S, real estate, etc.)
• Compliance and Enablement (QRA/MAPSS, clinical affairs, etc.)
• Strategy and Business Development (LBS and DHR/DHR Dx Platform)
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Develop and demonstrate the skills and experience to be a Senior Counsel, on a career path to becoming an Assistant General Counsel and General Counsel, by acting as the lead day-to-day attorney (“mini-GC”) for the company’s Core Histology and Mammotome business units and Global Operations and Supply Chain function, helping to enable your clients’ strategy and operations by providing practical, solution-oriented approaches to a broad range of complex business and legal matters.
- Be a person of influence at the company; in particular, be a trusted confidant and adviser to the leaders of your assigned business units and functions.
- Work cross-functionally with associates from all parts of the company, often operating outside of your comfort zone and helping to organize and lead project teams.
- Partner with specialist attorneys and other professionals, including external counsel, on IP, employment, regulatory, compliance, M&A, joint venture/strategic partnership, and other matters.
- Manage commercial and other disputes, including litigations.
- Using Danaher Business System (DBS) tools, help the legal and compliance team identify, design and implement continuous process improvement initiatives.
The essential requirements of the job include:
- JD from an accredited U.S. law school, active bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction and 5+ years of experience with complex commercial and corporate transactions, including experience in a large law firm transactional practice.
- A service-oriented, business-minded, practical approach to the practice of law, combined with a meticulous and precise nature and excellent attention to detail.
- A desire to work hard with a “do whatever it takes” mindset and the ambition to progress into roles of increasing responsibility with people leadership.
- Excellent writing and contract drafting skills.
- Excellent organizational skills, with the ability and desire to manage a global client base and calendar and dynamically balance numerous matters simultaneously.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate and work effectively with associates at all levels of the company.
Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements:
Travel: flexible, 15% or less
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
- The diagnostic/IVD industry.
- The medical device industry.
- Healthcare regulation, including fraud and abuse (e.g., anti-kickback), FDA and CE/IVDR for medical devices, and data use and privacy (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR).

The salary range OR the hourly range for this role is $130,000-$160,000. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.
This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
