Job SummaryWe are looking for a highly skilled and solution-driven Consulting Sales Engineer to support our sales efforts in delivering Optical Networking solutions to hyperscale and cloud service providers. The Sales Engineer will be responsible for providing pre-sales technical support by designing complex Optical solutions designed to support ADTRAN’s Internet Content Provider customers. This role involves working closely with customers and prospects and identifying challenges and network deficiencies with their current Optical Network.  Analyzing and making recommendations that will resolve the customer Optical Network challenges. The ideal candidate will be the Subject Matter Expert on the ADTRAN Optical portfolio.Duties and Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary technical resource during the pre-sales phase, engaging customers to understand their business and technical requirements.
  • Answer technical requirements for customer RFx, with support from Product Management and R&D as needed.
  • Work closely with Product Management to learn about upcoming, unreleased products and features to inform forward-looking bid responses.
  • Generate valid Bill of Material (BOM) utilizing various configuration/quoting tools.
  • Generate a visual representation of large customer networks utilizing Visio or other tools.
  • Maintain ADTRAN certifications on products and technologies – attend technical update webinars, read technical documentation etc. to stay current on the latest features and products released by ADTRAN.
  • Generate design-related technical content for internal and external knowledgebase.
  • Provide customer feedback on requests for new features and/or products to Product Management.
  • Work closely with Design Engineering, Product Qualifications, and Technical Support to understand product capabilities and limitations and collaborate on new applications/solutions in which products are being recommended to ensure validation at all levels.
  • Provide feedback to the corporate web team on improvements, errors etc. on the technical product content on the public web site.
  • Serve as an advocate for the ADTRAN sales team in resolving technical questions/solutions of medium complexity by working with the necessary corporate resources including Design Engineering, PQ, Product Management, and Technical Support.
  • Other projects and assignments may result and be assigned to accommodate the changing needs of the department and the Company.

QualificationsBasic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or other relevant engineering degree is required
    • Experience will be considered in lieu of a degree
  • 8+ years of Optical networking experience
  • Technical applications experience required
  • Expertise of Optical Networking and general knowledge of IP and Ethernet networks
  • Working knowledge of various technologies and their implementation including: DWDM, CWDM, WDM and broader technical understanding. 
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Windows OS, Microsoft Office:  PowerPoint, Excel, Visio, and Word.  Knowledgeable of ADTRAN's product portfolio. 
  • General familiarity with ADTRAN technologies and how we fit into the marketplace.
  • Some travel is expected in this position.

Preferred Qualifications (Optional)

  • Cisco certification: CCNA, CCDA, and/or CCNP or Juniper JNCIA/JNCIS or other equivalent is desirable.
  • Additionally, prefer extensive studies in networking technologies.

Prefer actual experience in providing pre or post-sales support in the capabilities and the use of applied telecommunications networks for data, voice, and video communications.
