Cloudflare helps build the future of the Internet. We started Cloudflare to solve one half of every IT organization's challenge: how do you ensure the resources and infrastructure that you expose to the Internet are safe from attack, fast, and reliable. We saw that the world was moving away from hardware and software to solve these problems and instead wanted a scalable service that would work around the world. To deliver that, we built one of the world's largest networks. Today our network spans more than 250 cities worldwide and is within milliseconds of nearly everyone connected to the Internet. We have built the capacity to stand up to nation-state scale cyberattacks and a threat intelligence system powered by the immense amount of Internet traffic that we see.
We are now expanding Cloudflare's product offerings to solve the other half of every IT organization's challenge: ensuring the people and teams within an organization can access the tools they need to do their jobs and are safe from malware and other online threats.
To do that, we released Cloudflare Zero Trust Platform, a Zero Trust platform built on Cloudflare's network to secure users, devices, and data in organizations of any size. Cloudflare for Teams consists of multiple products that deliver a comprehensive solution. Those products include

  • Cloudflare Access, built to replace VPNs and protect internally-managed applications.
  • Cloudflare Tunnel, the best way to connect your infrastructure to Cloudflare in a secure way.
  • Cloudflare Gateway, a tool that keeps team members protected from malware and other threats on the Internet.
  • The Cloudflare Zero Trust Agent, the secure on-ramp for your traffic to the Internet.
  • Cloudflare Browser Isolation, the Internet's fastest browser isolation technology

What you'll do
In this role, you'll help us build Cloudflare Browser Isolation, a secure remote browsing platform that protects users from security threats on the Internet. As an engineer on the Browser Isolation team, you will focus on designing, building, and scaling our Chromium-based distributed browsing engine. You will also contribute to the control plane that enables distributed Chromium-based browsers to deliver low-latency remote browsing for our users at scale across our global anycast network. You will solve problems of massive scale and significance, shaping the future of secure web browsing on the Internet.
Technologies we use:

  • Our client is written in WebAssembly, Typescript, and WebGL
  • Our remote streaming technology is based on WebRTC and Skia (read our blog to learn more)
  • Our remote browser is based on Chromium and developed in C++
  • For our orchestration layer we use Nomad, Consul, Cloudflare Workers, Kubernetes, Go and Typescript

Examples of desirable skills, knowledge and experience
Members of the Browser Isolation team contribute to all areas of the product. These include everything from making patches to Chromium, orchestrating tasks at the edge, and working on our build infrastructure. We're looking for engineers at all levels who are excited to work broadly across our technology and service stack.

  • 5 or more years of relevant experience required
  • Experience coding in Go and Typescript
  • Experience coding in C++ or Rust
  • Comfortable working under Linux environment and command-line tools
  • Distributed task orchestration systems such as Nomad or Kubernetes
  • Systems-level debugging and performance optimization
  • Ability to effectively navigate, understand, and contribute to large codebases
  • Solid foundation in computer science, with strong knowledge in building large, distributed systems
  • Strong communication skills - ability to explain complex concepts in a simple language

Bonus Points

  • Experience working in low-latency real time environments such as remote computer streaming, game engine architecture, high frequency trading, etc.
  • Experience working on a major browser engine, browser extensions or similar technologies
  • Strong competencies in algorithms and data structures
  • Deep-level understanding on network technologies such as UDP, WebRTC, PeerJS etc.
  • Natural interest or experience in security products and security protocols

Compensation
Compensation may be adjusted depending on work location and level.

  • Estimated annual salary of $137,000 - $240,000 USD
