The Senior Writer – Mortgage and Finance will focus on creating world-class content that helps customers make good financial decisions, especially with regard to home loans. The ideal candidate will use their subject matter expertise, research abilities and data to create long-form articles and other forms of media to reach diverse audiences.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Write new and update existing SEO-optimized and audience-centered content through research and data journalism to educate customers and build relationships with Freedom Mortgage as a brand.

  • Conduct research, leverage data and seek relevant perspectives to present content that is clear, accurate, insightful and meets regulatory requirements.

  • Incorporate SEO best practices in all deliverables to ensure visibility and drive performance.

  • Ensure all content is properly sourced and fact checked before publication.

  • Understand the Freedom Mortgage brand voice, tone and style to provide content consistency across mediums.

  • Collaborate with editors, strategists, SEO specialists and other experts across the organization to incorporate feedback and refine content to ensure quality.

  • Honor deadlines by following established production, workflow and quality control processes.

  • Achieve defined monthly, quarterly and annual key objectives and goals.

  • Subscribe to and be aware of industry-related news, AI tools, as well as content and SEO trends to keep deliverables current and relevant.

  • Recommend elements to enhance article ranking and performance, such as graphics, charts, videos, etc.

  • Mentor interns and assist with team development sessions and opportunities.

  • Comply with all company policies and procedures.

  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This position is an individual contributor with no direct reports but may provide guidance, leadership, or training to others.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Ability to research and write long-form articles on assigned mortgage or financial topics as well as pitch ideas for new and interesting angles.

  • Effective communicator with the ability to accept and implement feedback.

  • A strong understanding of SEO best practices.

  • Proven experience creating informative content for various audiences, in an editorial or journalism role through a portfolio of writing samples.

  • Ability to work autonomously, as well as collaboratively in team and cross-functional settings in-person and remotely.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, Economics or related field. Previous experience

  • Minimum Five (5) years of experience writing about mortgages, real estate and financial products.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Ex) None Required
