Upstart is a digital-first company, which means that most Upstarters live and work anywhere in the United States. However, we also have offices in San Mateo, California; Columbus, Ohio; and Austin, Texas.

Most Upstarters join us because they connect with our mission of enabling access to effortless credit based on true risk. If you are energized by the impact you can make at Upstart, we'd love to hear from you!

The Team:

Upstart's Automotive Retail is reinventing the way customers buy and finance their cars. $780 billion of auto loans are originated in the U.S. annually yet it consistently ranks as one of the worst consumer experiences in America. We started from the ground up to build a truly end to end digital retailing platform for dealerships spanning online shopping to in-store digital experiences to financing and dealer management tools – all in service of building a modern car buying experience.

We currently work with hundreds of dealerships across the country and are partnered as an official digital retail provider for key OEM brands including Mercedes-Benz, Acura, Honda, Lexus, Toyota, Volkswagen, and others. Our growth is built on leveraging Upstart's machine learning advantages in underwriting, fraud and dynamic workflows to deliver a product with higher approvals for consumers while boosting profitability at lower costs for dealerships. Our unique position of being a discrete business unit within Upstart affords us the growth and challenge of a fast growing startup but with the stability and foundation of a mature company.

Your Role:

The current landscape of automotive sales involves hundreds of potential integration vendors and data sources with the average sales person switching across 5 tools to complete a single vehicle purchase. As the Platform PM for Auto Retail, you will closely partner with both internal squads across the surface area of our product as well as external vendors and data sources to identify, evaluate, manage, implement and improve the core integrations within our platform. You will also be responsible for identifying and building out areas of unique differentiation for Upstart using our machine learning advantages to improve the core capabilities of our product.

Success in this role relies on working with a wide variety of internal stakeholders and external partners, developing a detailed understanding of the auto retail landscape and effectively balancing platform vs. team specific roadmaps.

How you'll make an impact:

  • You'll define the vision and strategy for how the platform team can drive us forward. What should we focus on, why, and when?
  • You'll understand the needs of internal stakeholders, other product squads and value from external vendors to build and execute on a prioritized roadmap that balances short term and long term growth.
  • Work closely with our sales, marketing, compliance, machine learning, and customer success teams to identify and prioritize new and valuable integrations, data sources and process improvements as we scale.
  • Launch features on a regular basis in conjunction with your engineering partners and iterate post-launch as needed to continuously drive towards our overall goals.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 7+ years of product management experience
  • Experience with product management with a focus on software products at a technology first organization
  • Platform, Core Services PM or related experience
  • Proven track record of achieving strategic goals in innovative and fast-paced environments.

  • Exceptional problem-solving, organizational, and analytical abilities.
  • Excellent track record working with technical and non-technical teams to deliver business outcomes
  • BA/BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the auto retail, auto commerce or auto lending industries a plus
  • Experience owning a platform team managing complex, technical APIs across multiple apps a plus
