You will join a team developing state-of-the-art general-purpose robots designed to operate in human spaces and with human tools. It is designed to work alongside humans, mobilize to human spaces, and manipulate the world around it.

JOB SUMMARY

The Perception team is looking for a Senior Perception ML Engineer. The ideal candidate will have experience with training and adapting ML architectures for perceptions tasks such as object detection, object pose estimation, scene understanding and bin picking.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES or KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Train & deploy ML perception models
  • Be involved in the full software development life cycle of perception ML tasks, from planning to maintenance
  • Stay current with latest advancements in perception and robotics
  • Collaborate with a cross functional team of engineers to iterate and improve the perception capabilities
  • Follow best practices for reproducible research and code development
  • Represent and lead with Apptronik's core values: CHIPC - Curiosity, Humility, Integrity, Passion, Creativity

SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • M.S. or Ph.D. (preferred) degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or related field
  • Experience in modern computer vision techniques
  • Object detection, object pose estimation, semantic 2D and 3D scene understanding, bin picking
  • Experience with different sensor modalities
  • Strong Python & C++ programming skills, proficient in popular ML frameworks
  • Experience working with large datasets
  • Familiarity with robotics frameworks such as ROS / ROS 2
  • Ability to independently research difficult open-ended problems and come to a working solution
  • Solid understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and agile methodologies
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills to work effectively across teams and stakeholders
  • (Preferred) Experience deploying perception systems on low SWaP devices
  • (Preferred) Experience with multi-modal sensor fusion
  • (Preferred) Prior experience working on robotic perception for manipulation, automated warehouse systems, or autonomous vehicles

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • M.S. or Ph.D. (preferred) degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience with modern computer vision techniques for object detection, object pose estimation, scene understanding, & bin picking
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, version control systems (Git), and automated testing frameworks is preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times
  • Vision to read printed materials and a computer screen
  • Hearing and speech to communicate
