What We Are Looking For

A Senior Game Designer at The Gearbox Entertainment Company is a development role focused on building richly imagined content for our players to explore. Senior Game Designers will work as part of a variety of content teams focused on creating things like gear, player characters, enemies, interactables, systems, events and tools. Seniors are expected to be able to assist their leads and directors build major pieces of content for their discipline. They will also occasionally assist leadership with mentorship and training of new hires or more junior members of the team. Seniors should exhibit maturity in their role and be a good example for teammates to follow. 

Through it all, a Senior Game Designer is expected to maintain a positive team environment, foster good communication across teams, and encourage positive, healthy behavior for their peers. All Senior Designers at Gearbox are expected to contribute to building a company culture around creativity, profit, and happiness.

Candidates should be familiar with Unreal Engine, preferably with shipped Unreal 4 experience in the AAA space. Unreal Engine 5 experience is a plus, but not required. They should have a firm grasp of modern FPS and 3rd person action titles in the current marketplace.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting project and departmental leadership with major pieces of design content
  • Owning design content from pitch to ship
  • Maintain a great track record of working with other departments to provide clear instructions and feedback, as well as maintain positive team morale
  • Assisting with training and mentoring new hires
  • Helping maintain department standards and being a positive influence on their team

Qualifications

  • Industry veteran with 2+ AAA games shipped from beginning to end in a design role, or comparable experience
  • Professional familiarity with Unreal Engine, preferably with shipped AAA experience on FPS or 3D action titles
  • Deep understanding of modern AAA action games and production practices
