Here are the problems you’ll be solving

Grocery TV is hiring its first dedicated Data Engineer to design and scale the backbone of our data infrastructure. This role will ensure reliable, high-quality data that powers decision-making across the company. As we grow, you’ll drive best practices, optimize data processes, and collaborate with Data, Engineering, and Product to build scalable, future-proof systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain scalable data infrastructure: Build and optimize ELT pipelines, data models, and integrations using modern data stack tools like Airflow, dbt, Fivetran, and Redshift.
  • Ensure data reliability and performance: Monitor and improve query performance, optimize data storage strategies, and enhance observability to ensure high availability and minimal downtime.
  • Enhance data governance and quality: Implement best practices for data lineage tracking, anomaly detection, and automated testing to improve trust and maintain high data integrity.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally: Partner with Analytics Engineers, Software Engineers, and Product teams to align data infrastructure with business needs, ensuring seamless data accessibility and usability.
  • Foster innovation and continuous learning: Solve data-intensive challenges, share knowledge, and contribute to the team's growth and adherence to best practices in data engineering.

Qualifications

  • SQL Expertise – Advanced SQL skills, including query optimization and performance tuning for large datasets.
  • Programming – Python for data transformations, API integrations, and automation (Pandas, PySpark, or similar).
  • Data Pipelines – Hands-on experience designing, optimizing, and maintaining scalable ELT pipelines using Airflow, dbt, Fivetran (or similar).
  • Data Storage – Experience with Redshift (or similar like Snowflake, BigQuery), including performance tuning, partitioning, and indexing.
  • Data Modeling – Strong understanding of dimensional modeling (star/snowflake schemas), fact/dimension tables, and denormalization for analytics.
  • Data Governance – Experience implementing data observability, lineage tracking, and governance best practices.
  • Work Experience – 5+ years in Data Engineering or related technical roles.

  • Big Data Processing – Familiarity with distributed data processing (e.g., Spark), real-time streaming (e.g., Kafka), or modern data lake formats (e.g., Iceberg).

  • Media or Retail Experience – Experience in a media or retail-adjacent role (e.g., Retail or Ad Tech company).

Compensation

As a part of our commitment to transparency, we use a market-based formula that provides consistency across roles & experience levels and publish all of our compensation data internally for our team. We’re open to a range of experience levels for this position. Here are the annual salaries for each level:

  • Senior Data Engineer I (IC 4): $150,000
  • Senior Data Engineer II (IC 5): $165,000
  • Staff Data Engineer (IC 6): $181,000
