Newsletter Writer for Operation Sports
Freelance – Remote – $100–$200 per story
Operation Sports is on the hunt for a writer who lives and breathes sports gaming—and who’s curious enough to ask, “What does a physicist think about the ball physics in MLB The Show?”
We’re building out our weekly newsletter into something more than just a round-up. We want it to feel like a cross between a hometown newspaper and a clubhouse you actually want to hang out in. That’s where you come in.
What You’ll Do:
- Write one original piece per week for the Operation Sports newsletter (and get paid $100–$200 per edition).
- Pitch and execute original reporting that goes beyond the SEO grind. This could mean chatting with a Madden modder, interviewing a game dev, or asking a longtime 2K player about their offline franchise obsession.
- Bring fresh eyes and storytelling chops to the world of sports sims, with the freedom to explore untraditional angles and surprising takes.
You Might Be a Fit If:
- You’re a strong writer with a love for sports sims like NBA 2K, Madden, The Show, and more.
- You understand the value of a tight, well-reported newsletter that informs, entertains, and connects a community.
- You’re a forum lurker—or better yet, a forum poster—who gets the rhythms and personalities of online sports gaming culture.
- You’re not afraid to ask smart questions, take creative swings, and shine a light on the voices that usually go unheard.
Bonus Points For:
- Journalism or editorial experience.
- Familiarity with the OS community (or similar spaces).
- A background in podcasting, editing, or other storytelling formats.
Pay:
$100–$200 per edition depending on length and reporting scope. We’re open to negotiating higher rates for well-researched, original journalism.
How to Apply:
Send us a quick intro (nothing fancy), a couple of links or writing samples, and your pitch for one story you’d want to write for the Operation Sports newsletter.
