We are in search of a Network Engineer to join our Enterprise Network Engineering team. The successful candidate will work closely with operations team members to operate, repair, and improve existing network infrastructure, including providing tier-3 support to other members of the Information Technology & Communications teams.

You will research, design, update, and operate network infrastructures that support voice, video, and data communications within the US Antarctic Program’s intercontinental enterprise network. This involves working closely with other enterprise team members, as well as supporting personnel deployed to Antarctica. This support may be remote, or on-site as required.

*** Deployment to Antarctica may be necessary at the discretion of management (approximately 3 to 8 weeks/year). The candidate in the position must complete the physical and dental examinations required by the NSF for deploying to Antarctica. ***

Due to contract requirements, US Citizenship is required.

Must obtain a Public Trust security clearance prior to start date. This process could take up to 4 months.

The anticipated salary range for this role is $125,000 - $135,000 annually.

The Challenge:

  • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for network systems.

  • Isolate faults and diagnose system failures to resolve problems in a methodical, thorough, and timely manner.

  • Proactively look for methods to improve the efficiency and reliability of the USAP infrastructure.

  • Create complete end-to-end plans including designs and/or upgrades for enterprise-wide LANs/WANs within the United States Antarctic Program (USAP).

  • Develop concept of operations documents, requirements documents, design documents and drawings.

  • Install, configure, maintain and document network hardware and software suites at multiple sites; create documentation for all network changes.

  • Maintain secure networking environments based on industry best practice security standards in conjunction with USAP policies.

  • Provide engineering support to IT for new deployments, enhancements, or modifications to IT systems, both on and off Ice.

  • Manage personal tasking as directed by IT management to ensure timely implementation or delivery of critical USAP infrastructure.

  • Periodically deploy to Antarctica (typically between 6 to 8 weeks in a year) to assist with installations, problem solving, or information gathering.

  • Coordinate any modifications to the USAP network environment with other IT departments and affected users.

  • Assist with life-cycle management evaluations and recommendations.

  • Analyze USAP grantee Support Information Packages (SIPs) to determine ASC ability to meet requirements.

  • Rotate 24x7 on-call support with other team members as required.

  • Provide technical expertise to other teams as required.

  • Excellent communication ability and the ability to work well with others in a diplomatic fashion is an essential skill.

  • Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace program and ensuring safety is the highest priority in the work place.

  • Perform other duties as needed.

What Sets You Apart:

  • Expertise in networking topologies, LANs/WANs (Ethernet), TCP/IP protocol (IPv4 / IPv6) and other common network standards.

  • Expertise demonstrating the ability to design, implement, and support enterprise network switched and routed architectures.

  • Experience designing and operating networks using routing protocols such as BGP, EIGRP, OSPF, and static routing.

  • Experience designing new network systems or upgrades to existing network systems.

  • Experience developing and presenting complex network diagrams.

  • Experience installing, configuring and maintaining Cisco routers and switches.

  • Experience with network management applications and related protocols such as SNMP and NetFlow.

  • Experience with wireless networking technologies in the 802.11 protocol suite.

  • Ability to perform fault isolation and resolution in a methodical, thorough manner.

  • Understanding of and experience applying Information Security concepts to core network infrastructure and data transport.

  • Ability to collaborate with others in a diplomatic and professional fashion.

  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate through verbal and written means.

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 8+ years of professional experience; or 6+ years of professional experience with a related Master’s degree.

Pay Range:Pay Range $89,700.00 - $162,150.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
