Seeking a motivated, engaged Managing Editor to lead our road and gravel cycling media brand, Velo. Responsibilities include overseeing editorial planning, managing a team of writers, editing articles for accuracy and tone, and ensuring timely publication of engaging, high-quality content. They will also write and contribute to high quality content themselves, and contribute to building and executing Velo’s video strategy. The ideal candidate has a deep knowledge of cycling culture, excellent writing and editing skills, and experience in digital media. Passion for the sport and the ability to connect with the cycling community are essential.


This role is a great opportunity for someone who lives and breathes cycling and is eager to shape the voice of a leading publication in the space.


Within 1 month, you will: 

  • Assign, edit, and publish articles, reviews, and features.
  • Write key stories and contribute on a daily basis—this is a player-coach role.
  • Collaborate with marketing and design teams to enhance content presentation and distribution.
  • Connect with staff, contractors, and wide ranging industry contacts to listen and begin identifying ideas and opportunities for Velo.

Within 6 months, you will: 

  • Manage a team of writers, freelancers, and contributors, providing constructive feedback and guidance.
  • Monitor industry trends and events to create timely, relevant content.
  • Complete a deep dive into the brand, and have a well defined vision of its character, its people, and its opportunity within the cycling community.
  • Ensure content accuracy, consistency, and adherence to the publication’s voice and style.
  • Analyze audience engagement metrics and adjust strategies to maximize reach and impact.


Within 12 months, you will: 

  • Develop and execute the editorial strategy, aligning content with community  interests and industry trends.
  • Earn the respect of the community and the industry for the brand as a leading voice.
  • Deliver on ambitious growth targets across editorial, membership, video, and more.


What YOU bring to Outside:  (Preferred Qualifications)

  • 5+ years proven experience as a professional in the cycling space.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and organizational skills.
  • Strong knowledge of road and gravel cycling, including culture, gear, and events.
  • Comfort with digital publishing tools and workflows like WordPress, Analytics, Parse.ly, Photoshop, etc.
  • Understanding of SEO best practices and social media strategies.
  • Ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with experience managing teams or contributors.


What We Offer:

Entirely remote jobs that could be performed in Colorado: Employees can expect to be paid a salary of  between $80,000 to $100,000. Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, Flexible Time Away,  sick leave, and more.  This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
