Working at Atlassian
Atlassians can choose where they work - whether in an office, from home, or a combination of the two. That way, Atlassians have more control over supporting their family, personal goals, and other priorities. We can hire people in any country where we have a legal entity. Interviews and onboarding are conducted virtually, a part of being a distributed-first company.
This is a remote position. To help our teams work together, this role requires you to be located in the Pacific Time Zone.
We're looking for a Visual & Motion Designer to help define how our products move, look, and feel, to express value back to our customers through engaging animation and visually compelling platforms and insights. As a senior level individual contributor in an organization consisting of multiple teams across Australia, North America, and India, you will work with cross functional partners, over a broad range of products and surfaces, to find new ways to visually tell our story, and our customer's stories, through compelling visual design, motion interaction, animated data, creation flows or setup wizards, micro-interactions (buttons, likes, stars, check boxes, et al), splash screens, first run, app launch, and other experiences.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will:

  • Elevate the motion design and visual expression of the Atlassian products and provide a clear and actionable opinion for why, where, and when we implement for impact across our offerings.
  • Be accountable for delivering high-quality design solutions and outcomes across multiple work-streams, products, and/or platforms while understanding the complex relationships between various products to drive better design outcomes
  • Prioritize multiple project/program plans, making decisions about priorities, timing, and resources while consistently displaying mastery of tasks and processes
  • Clearly define and communicate project or program goals and offer consistent coaching to others to adjust priorities or timelines as needed.
  • Use advanced motion design principles and techniques to shape product strategy through storytelling.
  • Use your expertise in motion design (and visual design) to show opportunities for how motion can improve usability, visual appeal and brand cohesiveness.
  • Use a range of pre-visualization techniques such as scripting, storyboarding, and animatics to facilitate input and collaboration.
  • Be comfortable with a variety of tools for video editing, 3D animation and motion graphics, and stay current on these tools (and embedded workflows) to ensure you make the right choice for the situation.
  • Understand and use advanced layouts and grids to create visually appealing, functional and user-friendly designs
  • Take initiative in merging different design elements into a unified system, ensuring consistency in branding and user experience across platforms
  • Independently understand, interpret, and apply visual design to a product or service experience, ensuring that the aesthetics align with objectives and user needs.
  • Adapting and refine existing systems and architectures to create efficient and effective experiences.
  • Accountable for driving formative and summative research planning at a program/portfolio level, including long-term studies, which helps in prioritizing research execution to align with strategic business goals.
  • Identify actionable, opinionated insights and design recommendations, and drive the coordinated implementation of design improvements based on these research recommendations.
  • Participate in and help drive design reviews and be a design craft leader and coach to other designers to help ensure consistent and cohesive experiences
  • Identify success metrics ensuring design solutions continue to deliver customer value
  • Collaborate with some of the industry's smartest (and nicest) people. You'll work with Engineers, Product Managers, Content Designers, Researchers, Marketing Experts, and Analysts to advocate for the user experience in our products and ship high-quality work

Your background:

  • 10+ years of 2D and 3D visual design and animation experience across complex, data dense, and/or enterprise-level product design and branding contexts
  • Experience in creating and delivering strategic org wide design programs which impact multiple delivery teams
  • Experience in end-to-end UX/product design to design impactful solutions to challenging problems
  • Passion for story-telling, the ability to bring design direction to life with compelling narrative
  • Experience balancing customer needs with business goals, market viability, and technical feasibility
  • Facilitation and cross-functional collaboration skills: you can demonstrate the ability to integrate the work of multiple teams, solicit and synthesize feedback, and facilitate design discussions that lead company wide outcomes and positively influence future delivery roadmaps.
  • Experience in design systems, the ability to identify common components required to support a wide array of customer use cases.
  • Experience measuring success with qualitative and quantitative methods
  • Experience improving process and methodology to increase product value, team velocity and accelerate adoption of new capabilities
  • High level of proficiency with industry standard design tools: Figma, Creative Cloud, C4D or Blender, Redshift or Octane, ProtoPie, Rive, or LottieFiles, etc.
  • Learn-it-all mindset. Eagerness to learn and challenge yourself in the face of a fast changing design industry landscape.
  • Nice-to-have: video editing, compositing, or sound design skills.
