The Opportunity

At Root, we’re on a mission to improve the lives of our customers by offering better insurance solutions. We challenge ourselves to think differently in order to reimagine insurance to make it smarter, more equitable, and a better experience for all.

We strive to “unbreak” the archaic insurance industry by using data and technology in innovative new ways. We believe we must be steadfast in our commitment to research, experimentation, and disciplined data-driven decision making in order to build products our customers love. Analytics sits at the center of our vision.

Our Claims and Customer Service analytics team conducts in-depth analyses to uncover trends in claims frequency, severity, and customer satisfaction, delivering actionable insights that help optimize processes, improve efficiency, and reduce costs. This team collaborates with cross-functional partners to assess the impact of customer support initiatives, such as chatbots, call routing enhancements, and new business channels, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives. Additionally, we tackle complex business challenges, identifying opportunities for investment—whether by enhancing internal systems or creating partnerships with external vendors—to drive measurable improvements and support long-term growth.

As a Lead Analyst, you’ll be responsible for conducting exploratory research, running AB tests, studying the downstream impacts of new business strategies, analyzing the overall performance of our claims and customer service teams, and introducing new metrics and reporting to shape how we measure our business. You’ll work closely with leaders in Product, Data Science, Design, Claims Operations and Engineering to ensure our business decisions and strategies are data driven and achieve optimal outcomes.

Root is a “work where it works best” company. Meaning we will support you working in whatever location that works best for you across the US.

Salary Range: $120,000 - $135,000 (Bonus and LTI Eligible)

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Lead exploratory research to identify opportunities to improve business outcomes

  • Design and conduct experiments (including AB tests) that maximize learnings for new product feature launches

  • Manage and enhance a suite of business intelligence frameworks and dashboards to unlock self-service capabilities among non-technical partners

  • Proactively and consistently analyze the overall performance of our Claims and Customer Service operations team to identify trends, anomalies, or other potentially actionable insights

  • Identify opportunities to improve analytical methodologies or introduce new techniques to improve analytical deliverables

  • Build strong relationships with cross functional partners to influence strategy and to ensure consistent alignment and awareness

  • As a lead, you will be expected to mentor other analysts across the team to increase talent density and foster professional development and growth

What You Will Need to Succeed

  • 5+ years of work experience in analytics (prior insurance experience preferred)

  • 2+ years of work experience at the Senior Analyst or Lead Analyst level

  • Proficiency with SQL and BI software (Tableau, Mode, Power BI, etc.)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Finance, Engineering, Statistics, or another quantitative field

  • In-depth knowledge of experimental design and statistical techniques

  • Superior problem-solving skills with ability to think strategically and innovatively

  • Exceptional written and oral communication; able to effectively collaborate with and present materials to Director and VP levels

  • Detail oriented; able to effectively multitask across multiple domains; consistently maintains rigorous documentation

  • Roll-up-the sleeves work ethic and “do-what-it takes” attitude to efficiently execute and drive results in a fast-paced work environment
