Position: Lead Engineer or Tech Lead or Staff Engineer

About the Role
We are seeking a highly hands-on engineering leader to drive technical strategy, AI integration, and backend development for our team in Austin, TX. This role is ideal for a Tech Lead, Staff Engineer, or Lead Engineer who thrives in building scalable systems, optimizing engineering workflows, and leading by example.
This person will play a key role in integrating AI and Large Language Models (LLMs) into our development processes, transforming how code is written, reviewed, and optimized using AI-assisted tools. The ideal candidate is a strong backend engineer with leadership experience, who can architect, develop, and implement best practices while mentoring a high-performing team.
Key Responsibilities
- Hands-on backend development with TypeScript (NestJS), GraphQL, PostgreSQL, and cloud services (GCP, AWS).
- Lead AI-driven engineering transformations, integrating LLMs and AI-assisted development tools into the coding and workflow process.
- Architect and scale backend services, ensuring high performance, security, and reliability.
- Optimize and manage CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions), Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), and containerized deployments (Docker, Cloud Run).
- Improve team productivity with AI-based automation, leveraging prompt engineering, automated code reviews, and AI-assisted debugging.
- Mentor and support engineers, fostering a collaborative, high-impact engineering culture.
- Work cross-functionally with product, design, and other technical teams to align engineering efforts with business goals.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of hands-on engineering experience
- Deep expertise in backend development using TypeScript (NestJS), GraphQL, and PostgreSQL.
- Strong knowledge of cloud infrastructure (GCP, AWS), serverless computing, and containerized deployments.
- Experience implementing AI and LLM tools in engineering workflows (e.g., AI-assisted code generation, debugging, automation).
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD, DevOps best practices, Terraform, and cloud monitoring (Datadog, Statsig).
- Passion for leading by doing, mentoring engineers, and improving team efficiency with AI and automation.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, execution-driven environment, making strategic decisions while remaining hands-on.
