The impact you can have  

We are looking for an employment counsel to be an integral part of Sonar’s legal team, reporting to the General Counsel. This is an exciting and challenging role in a fast-paced environment with primary responsibility for handling employment counseling and litigation on a wide variety of employment issues arising globally. This role involves close and ongoing collaboration with the People & Culture team. The role demands a high risk tolerance smartly applied to each situation and an experienced perspective on employment counseling. This role will be based in our Austin, Geneva, or London office. 

On a daily basis, you will

  • Assist HR personnel with employee relations and HR policy issues on a global basis in the jurisdictions where the Company has employees. We currently have over 600 employees and offices in Austin, London, Bochum, Geneva, Tokyo, and Singapore.
  • Provide counsel for and help manage legal risk relating to a wide variety of employment-related legal and business issues.
  • Develop and revise employment policies and procedures, including employee handbooks.
  • Draft and negotiate employment, consulting, and related agreements.
  • Advise on employment law related compliance issues.
  • Provide support with respect to immigration and visa issues.
  • Keep abreast of and advise on developments in employment law as applicable to the business.
  • Coordinate with management and outside counsel as needed.
  • Assist in the oversight of any employment-related litigation matters.
  • Tackle special projects that come our way, given that we are a fast-growing and innovative technology company. 

The skills you will demonstrate

  • 5+ years of practice in employment law in a top-tier law firm or in-house corporate position. Prior in-house experience with an international company is preferred.
  • Legal qualification in the jurisdiction of the home office.
  • Knowledge of and proven experience advising on employment laws. Knowledge of privacy laws and/or AI as applied in the employment context is a plus.
  • JD or equivalent from a top law program.
  • The ability to prioritize and juggle multiple work assignments at once.
  • A start-up mentality, including a willingness to roll up your sleeves, clear blockers, think creatively, and support the business to drive projects to completion. 
  • Excellent English written/verbal communication skills. 
  • Flexibility with work schedule to accommodate occasional calls outside of your regular time zone. 
  • Proficient in Google Workspace and Microsoft Word.
  • Willingness to work in-office at least three days per week.
