Director, Data Science

About the Role:
As a Director, Data Science, you will manage a small team and also serve as a highly experienced individual contributor. In this role, you will be at the forefront of building production-grade software solutions that transform how our Product, Pricing, and Actuarial teams manage and implement rates across all lines of business, products, and states. Our mission is to standardize, streamline, automate, and augment the rate implementation and rate management processes—ensuring that our Product and Actuarial teams can move faster, with greater precision, and more confidence in their decisions. This is not just about writing code; it’s about architecting scalable, high-performance data solutions that drive real business impact.

You will develop foundational data assets leveraged across the company, design and deploy interactive tools that empower Zonal Product Managers to run “what-if” scenario tests, and create a suite of applications that visualize data, produce actionable insights, and integrate seamlessly with various internal and external systems. If you thrive on building elegant, high-quality software that solves complex problems, love optimizing workflows with automation, and get excited about delivering solutions that your colleagues will actually love using, this role is for you. You’ll work closely with Product and Actuarial leaders, contributing to a culture of innovation where data and software intersect to drive better pricing, underwriting, and business decisions.

What You'll Do:

  • Analyze and interpret complex datasets to identify trends and patterns.
  • Programmatically streamline and automate processes.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand analytical needs.
  • Communicate findings and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Utilize tools like Python and SQL for data analysis and modeling.

What We're Looking For:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Actuarial Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or related field.
  • At least 7 years of experience as a data analyst, scientist, ML/AI engineer, or actuary.
  • At least 3 years of experience within the P&C insurance industry.
  • Experience in team management or as a senior individual contributor.
  • Strong programming skills in Python; experience with Git.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills.

The base salary for this role can range from $155K - $175K, based on a full-time work schedule. An individual’s ultimate compensation will vary depending on job-related skills and experience, geographic location, alignment with market data, and equity among other team members with comparable experience.
