The Role

Description
Reporting to a specific location where work needs to be performed / collaboration should happen (regardless this location is within a hub) and without regard to where a candidate lives (some employees may end up hybrid who live more than 50 miles away but where business needs dictate them to be onsite at a specific location three days per week).

  • This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to GM Austin IT Innovation Center three times per week, at minimum.

Our Enterprise Design team is seeking a talented and passionate to lead a small team of Designers who create user interfaces in the manufacturing space. In this role, you will collaborate with end users, other designers, researchers, developers, and stakeholders, to craft highly streamlined, usable, efficient, and polished experiences for employees at our GM factories.

  • Lead a small team of UX/UI designers
  • Understand and balance user needs and wants, technical constraints, design studio expectations and business objectives to effectively solve challenging design problems
  • Collaborate closely with peers and stakeholders to craft world standard user experiences
  • Create and lead the creation of design deliverables that communicate your team's work to leadership, stakeholders, and developers including sketches, logic and flow, interactive prototypes, wireframes, mockups, and user interface specifications
  • Contribute to the continued evolution of the team's workflows and processes to further improve quality and performance
  • Ensure the designers continue to grow and build their craft
  • Provide mentorship for the team and their careers
  • Manage operational tasks that come with leading a team

Additional Description

  • Prior experience leading a team or mentoring
  • Understanding of the manufacturing space (automotive or otherwise)
  • Experience designing employee web and mobile software
  • Ability to combine vision with strong creative and tactical planning
  • Experience in working across organizational boundaries to define, manage, and prioritize work
  • Strong written, visual, and verbal communication skills
  • BA/BS degree or training in User-Centered Design, User Experience Design, Interaction Design, or related
  • Track record of expertise in user experience design, visual design, creativity, and design thinking
  • Experience incorporating user feedback into the design process
  • Proficient of Figma and FigJam
  • Ability to give and receive critiques and know how and when to defend decisions
  • Understanding of the iterative design process


  • Deep knowledge of the automotive manufacturing space
  • Android OS and Material Design experience or knowledge
  • Graduate degree or post graduate training in User-Centered Design, User Experience Design, Interaction Design, Visual Design, Product Design, or related
