What You’ll Do

As a Cost Accountant, you will:

  • Set and maintain standard and job costs, analyzing impacts of changes in labor rates, burden rates, material costs, bills of material (BOM), and routings on inventory valuation.
  • Support the monthly close process, including journal entries, production order closings, and work-in-progress (WIP) evaluations.
  • Perform detailed analysis of variances, research discrepancies, and provide corrective recommendations.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts monthly to ensure accuracy and adherence to financial controls.
  • Analyze perpetual inventory transactions for accuracy, trends, and anomalies.
  • Partner with plant personnel to ensure accuracy in BOM and routings.
  • Provide variance reports comparing estimated profitability to actual results.
  • Conduct cost analyses for current and simulated scenarios, optimizing cost structures and updating estimating assumptions.
  • Collaborate with operations to manage inventory control, assign ABC part categories, and monitor cycle count results.
  • Lead physical inventory planning and validation processes.
  • Ensure manufacturing costs are accurately captured, tracked, and reported per company policy and GAAP.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement best practices to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Provide data for plant trends, monthly forecasts, and annual budget planning.
  • Maintain the fixed asset ledger, including setups, transfers, disposals, and monthly depreciation reconciliations.
  • Complete ad hoc analyses and special projects as needed.

What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a relevant field.
  • Minimum of 1 year of Cost Accounting experience, preferably in a Build/Engineer-to-Order manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with major ERP systems; QAD experience is a plus.
  • Advanced skills in Excel and proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate financial information effectively to non-financial personnel.
  • Self-motivation to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • A proactive and inquisitive mindset, with an aptitude for recognizing patterns and problem-solving.
