About this roll* (responsibilities) 

The Toast Competitive Intelligence team delivers best-in-class market and competitive insights and analysis to position Toast as the leader in restaurant tech. We leverage these insights and analysis to enable strategic decision making across Toast and inform overall company GTM strategy and sales enablement. We are responsible for understanding the restaurant technology market and competitive landscape and bringing to life the value, differentiation, and proof points of our offering. This is a high-impact, high-visibility role that will offer substantial exposure to many different departments and the opportunity to drive long-term shareholder value at a hyper growth company.

In this role, you will become an expert on the restaurant technology competitive and market landscapes. You will be responsible for conducting quantitative and qualitative research and analysis that will inform both key strategic decision making as well as enable the sales team to be fluent in key competitive moves. The ideal candidate can thrive in becoming an expert in a rapidly changing environment and has experience uncovering and synthesizing competitive insights.

As Manager of Competitive Intelligence, you will:

  • Build strategic recommendations and inform long-term strategic planning by developing perspectives on competitive landscape trends and developments
  • Develop a deep understanding of our competitors by analyzing public statements and financials, conducting interviews, and gathering on-the-ground information
  • Conduct research and analysis on competitor products and strategies to influence strategic decisions across product, product marketing, sales, and other areas
  • Leverage various quantitative data sources (Salesforce, Sigma, Snowflake, etc.) to extract, transform, and build analyses and data visualizations that answer critical questions and illuminate our competitive performance
  • Deliver the latest competitive developments, insights, and recommendations to the senior leadership team and other key stakeholders
  • Leverage competitive intelligence insights to build assets for sales reps (e.g., battlecards) and lead sales trainings
  • Leverage Market Insights and Win/Loss data to develop a holistic understanding of the competitive and market landscape
  • Work cross-functionally with teams across Toast to socialize competitive intelligence through storytelling and collaborate with marketing, product, and insights teams across the organization (e.g., Investor Relations and Corporate Development) to build Toast’s collective knowledge

Do you have the right ingredients*? (requirements)

  • Experience in a diverse environment that can span management and strategy consulting, finance, equity research, product marketing, product management, or operational roles
  • Ability to own and execute complex projects with limited oversight
  • Ability to shift between big picture brainstorming and thoughtful data analysis
  • Experience with quantitative and qualitative research and the ability to synthesize them together to inform strategic decision making
  • Highly collaborative mindset; experience working cross-functionally and managing stakeholders to drive projects forward and deliver results
  • Strong writer, presenter, and verbal communicator; ability to build strong, compelling storylines and recommendations that are deeply evidenced in both quantitative and qualitative research to move leadership to action
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to effectively manage multiple project timelines, internal partners, external partners, and deadlines
  • Highly analytical and comfortable (or will quickly learn to be) building reporting in analytics and data visualization tools; demonstrated ability to distill complex datasets in order to answer questions clearly
  • Intellectual curiosity, enthusiasm, and a willingness to explore, grow, and learn

Special sauce: (nice to have)

  • Competitive intelligence and/or market insights experience 
  • Familiarity with Crayon, Salesforce, Sigma, Hex, and SQL a plus
  • Experience working with stakeholders from Sales, Sales Enablement, Marketing, Product, R&D, Investor Relations, Senior Leadership, and everything in between
  • Interest and passion for restaurants, technology, and hospitality 
  • Comfort with ambiguity
  • A self-starter who thrives when multitasking

The base salary range for this role is listed below. The starting salary will be determined based on skills and experience. In addition to base salary, our total rewards components include cash compensation (overtime, bonus/commissions if eligible), equity, and benefits.

$105,000$168,000 USD
