Sana’s vision is to make healthcare easy.

All of us can agree healthcare is simply too hard in the US. And our members feel that pain day in and day out. We aim to create an experience that simply feels easy when you need to access our healthcare system. If you need something, you know where to go to get it with care that is a click (or as few clicks as possible!) away. What’s beautiful about a vision oriented toward “easy” is how it imparts a singular feeling. We instinctively know as humans when something is easy versus hard, even if we can’t explain why. We fight as a company to make an easy pathway available to all our members at every stage of their healthcare journey. If you feel passionate about delivering better healthcare to small businesses through a seamless care experience and affordable benefits, join us!

We’re looking for an innovative Chief Medical Officer to lead Sana Care, our virtual primary care practice serving tens of thousands of members. The ideal candidate possesses significant experience in clinical care and the digital health industry, with demonstrated experience leading high-performing clinical teams. At the same time, that person brings a strong bias to action, a collaborative, low-ego approach to relationship building, and a growth-oriented entrepreneurial mindset that is critical in a start-up environment. This is a unique opportunity to make bold bets to positively impact the healthcare industry and to build the care model of the future. Reporting to the President/COO, this role serves as a key member of Sana’s leadership team and works closely with leaders in Product, Engineering, Operations, Finance, and Revenue.

We are building a distributed operations team and encourage all applicants to apply, regardless of location.

What you will do

  • Responsible for oversight of the clinical operations for our virtual primary care services, ensuring high standards of patient care and compliance with all governing bodies.
  • Lead and grow a team of incredible primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants/associates, and virtual medical assistants -- including supporting the recruitment efforts for all care team members.
  • Develop and foster plans for team members’ continued career growth through regular coaching, consistent 1:1s, feedback sessions, problem-solving, and Q&A during normal business hours.
  • Provide compassionate and meaningful care through our care platform - anticipate 15% of time dedicated to patient care, serving as a role model in setting standards of practice and performance.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain clinical protocols and guidelines to ensure effective patient care delivery across the telemedicine platform.
  • Provide clinical expertise when collaborating with cross-functional teams including Product, Engineering, Design, Marketing, Legal, Revenue, Finance, and Operations to integrate clinical perspectives into project planning and execution.
  • Participate in Sana's XFN leadership forum and generally act as the connective tissue between the care team, leadership, and cross-functional teams through clear communication in all directions
  • Monitor trends in telehealth and adapt strategies to maximize patient outcomes and operational efficiency; foster an external network of clinical thought leaders to stay informed of the latest developments in our space.
  • Facilitate resolution of provider-related conflicts and patient grievances, handling potentially charged problems and situations in a calm and objective manner.
  • Ensure continuous improvement of the clinical services by leading quality assurance efforts, patient safety, root cause analysis as appropriate, and patient satisfaction initiatives. Assures credible action plans are resourced and completed.
  • Drive scalability of the care model to serve an expanding member base while maintaining clinical excellence
  • Generally support innovation in healthcare delivery by implementing new technologies and practices.

About you

  • Licensed to practice in the State of Texas or ability to obtain a TX Medical license. Willingness to obtain additional licenses as needed
  • 3+ years of experience providing clinical leadership in a variety of clinical settings, including in a virtual care model
  • Passionate about primary care, new medical technology and models of care delivery
  • Excellent people manager and strong team player with a track record of working cross-functionally. You know how to build a team and earn trust. You can identify, recruit, and maximize your team’s talent. People love working with and for you.
  • Outstanding communication skills in person, over the phone, in writing, via email, chat, carrier pigeon, etc.
  • You are mission-driven. You care about making our healthcare system work better for people and business owners
