Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic legal leader for the role of Associate Vice President, Assistant General Counsel - Government and Internal Legal Investigations. This is a new role that will report directly to the SVP, Deputy General Counsel - Litigation, Investigations, Labor and Employment, Digital Sustainability, IRM, and Legal Operations and lead a global team of attorneys handling legal internal and government investigations. This position is a key member of the litigation leadership team and will play an important role in ensuring team performance, processes and strategy are consistent with best-in-class standards. In addition to leading a team of investigation attorneys, this position will be expected to individually lead complex internal and government investigations – and in some cases - related litigation. The ideal candidate must have a strong passion for identifying and developing high performing talent, the vision and experience to strategically leverage technology to facilitate assigned legal function and matters, and a proven ability to advise senior leaders on complex matters with a high degree of confidence and influence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage team of high performing attorneys (and other team members as assigned) handling global government and internal legal investigations, related litigation matters, and advise on best practices for managing the legal risks of operating in a global economy.
  • Provide thoughtful and proactive legal advice and strategic direction on complex investigation issues, mitigations and collateral consequences.
  • Provide legal advice and counseling on anti-corruption compliance, fraud, AKS, FCA and related issues.
  • Stay current on and engage with legal leadership and other senior management on global enforcement initiatives/priorities and related laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Maintain strong connections with global legal, HR and compliance peers to ensure coordinated approach to investigation risk management issues and frameworks.  
  • Collaborate with federal and state enforcement regulators and other external stakeholders, as needed, on strategic enforcement and policy priorities.
  • Manage relationships with external counsel, consultants, industry peers/associations and other third-party service providers.
  • Oversee the strategic use of automation, generative AI and other innovative technology solutions to facilitate investigations and proactive compliance strategies, in coordination with legal peers and compliance and risk functions across our geographies.
  • Provide training and guidance to legal colleagues and other employees regarding compliance and investigation best practices.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s and J.D. degree and active license to practice law in the United States.
  • A minimum of 15 years legal experience primarily as lead attorney handling government investigations and enforcement matters, preferably with experience at both a government enforcement authority and a large law firm advising global corporations or in-house at a global corporation.
  • Experience advising on global compliance and enforcement risks, including issues related to anti-corruption laws, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), economic and export sanctions, criminal and civil fraud, AKS/FCA matters, and/or other cross border investigations.
  • Significant experience as a lead attorney handling government enforcement inquiries and investigations in front of or for federal enforcement authorities such as the US Department of Justice (DOJ), and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
  • Demonstrated team leadership experience and effectiveness in working with senior leadership.
  • Experience in the healthcare field, with life sciences experience preferred.
  • Strong executive presence and ability to provide practical legal advice and distill complex legal issues into business accessible messaging.

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location.  The anticipated wage for this position is

$247,500 - $385,000

Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
