These 5 Austin Tech Companies Raised a Combined $470M in March
From aerospace to woolly mammoths, Silicon Hills tech companies raked in venture capital last month. Keep reading to find out which company landed the number one spot.
#5. $25 million, March 23
Smarter Sorting helps brands and retailers safely ship, dispose of and store products — like car batteries, electronics and lightbulbs — while staying compliant with environmental regulations. The Austin-based company raked in $25 million from G2 Venture Partners and will use the funding to hire 25 new employees this year.
#3 (tied). $60 million, March 9
Colossal Biosciences raised a Series A round co-led by Thomas Tull and At One Ventures that will go toward the company’s tools and technology. Colossal is a genetic engineering company focusing on the restoration of endangered or extinct species, including the woolly mammoth.

CesiumAstro gained $60 million in a Series B round that will be used to grow its research, manufacturing and development capabilities. Funds will also be used to expand the team from 80 to at least 160 people. CesiumAstro creates communication systems for space and airborne crafts such as drones and satellites.
#2. $75 million, March 22
The Cedar Park-based company creates launch and in-space vehicles to provide affordable services for access to space. Firefly Aerospace raised $75 million in a Series B round led by AE Industrial, which also purchased co-founder and investor Max Polyakov’s remaining stake in the company. The fresh funding will go toward the development of two spacecrafts.

FLASH gained a $250 million strategic investment led by Vista Equity Partners that helped the company secure unicorn status. FLASH’s cloud-based software works with parking garages across the U.S. and Canada to provide parking availability and pricing. The company plans to add 200 employees this year.
