When organizations provide their employees with laptops or other devices a base level of protection is determined and implemented by the company’s IT department. As employees continue to use their devices and install new software or use new applications, they open their devices — and subsequently the organizations network — to new security risks. This is known as SaaS sprawl and it can be hard to track and protect against.

To help organizations track and manage SaaS sprawl and provide encompassing IT protection services, Nudge Security recently emerged from stealth with a new solution to protect companies from network risks.

Austin-based Nudge Security works by actively monitoring devices within a network and detecting when an employee uses a new SaaS asset. It then provides various solutions, such as third-party help. It can also guide the employee to adopt optimal security practices.

Employees are capable and willing to ‘do the right thing when it comes to security; the industry has just made it incredibly difficult for them to do so, Russell Spitler, CEO and co-founder of Nudge Security, said in a statement. We are making security a sidecar to the employee experience, rather than a series of roadblocks and detours.

According to the company, its IT and cybersecurity solution keeps the employee as the main priority. By not setting blockers or gates to certain services or SaaS applications, employees and teams get to keep control over what applications they use in their workflow.

Prior to emerging from stealth, the Austin-based startup managed to raise $7 million in a seed round led by Ballistic Ventures. With that capital, Nudge said it would expand its team and establish early partnerships.
