“We believe in the power of collaboration and inclusivity.”
So said Miranda Goins, a senior project manager in project management at BigCommerce, who shared the reasons Hispanic Heritage Month is observed in spectacular ways.
The Austin-based eCommerce platform provider celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month through companywide heritage and cultural education programs. The fact that BigCommerce has a significant and growing operation in Mexico itself contributes to the importance and impact of this event.
In practice, the company embraces its Latinx employees far beyond Hispanic Heritage Month.
“At BigCommerce, we are committed to supporting and empowering our Hispanic and Latinx employees throughout the year by implementing various programs, initiatives and benefits,” she said, sharing with Built In Austin how all employees of all backgrounds are invited to participate.
In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, what is your company doing this year to celebrate and honor the cultures and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans throughout history?
BigCommerce is excited to celebrate and honor the rich cultures and significant contributions of Hispanic and Latinx Americans throughout history during Hispanic Heritage Month. As a company, we have always been committed to cultural knowledge sharing and understanding, which is more important than ever as BigCommerce continues to expand globally.
For instance, we now have a significant — and still growing — employee base in Mexico, and Hispanic Heritage Month is a key time for us to help our entire company learn about Mexican traditions, customs and celebrations.

One of the highlights of our celebration is a Fireside Chat and Panel Event that we will be hosting with our Hispanic and Latinx employees. This interactive session will provide an opportunity for them to share their personal stories, experiences, and insights with the rest of the company. It will be a platform to showcase their unique perspectives, highlight their achievements and foster a deeper understanding of their cultural heritage.
Furthermore, we believe in the power of collaboration and inclusivity. As part of our efforts, we have partnered with BEmpowered, an Employee Resource Group for women and non-binary people through professional development, and to provide resources for helping these groups to thrive.
What other activities or charitable initiatives do you have planned for Hispanic Heritage Month?
We are incorporating educational initiatives throughout the month. This includes sharing inspiring stories of Hispanic and Latinx trailblazers, artists, scientists, activists and leaders who have made significant contributions in various fields. These stories will be communicated through internal communications and social media campaigns to ensure a wider reach and greater impact.
Winners of our Loteria event will receive big prizes while BigCommerce also provides a donation to a Hispanic or Latinx-focused charity.
What are some ongoing programs, initiatives or benefits your company offers to support and empower Hispanic and Latino employees throughout the year?
At BigCommerce, we are committed to supporting and empowering our Hispanic and Latinx employees throughout the year by implementing various programs, initiatives and benefits. We recognize the importance of fostering an inclusive and supportive environment that celebrates diversity.
There are several examples of the ongoing initiatives we have in place. One is our Employee Resource Groups, where we established an ERG specifically focused on race and ethnicity and in particular Hispanic and Latinx employees. This group serves as a platform for networking, mentorship and professional development opportunities. They organize regular meetings, workshops and events to enhance career growth, cultural awareness and community engagement within our organization.
Another is our Employee Assistance Program. BigCommerce provides an EAP that offers confidential counseling, support and resources for employees facing personal or work-related challenges. We ensure that the program is culturally sensitive and accessible to all employees, including those from Hispanic and Latinx backgrounds. This initiative reflects our commitment to the well-being and mental health of our diverse workforce.
