If there’s one thing that helps employees feel truly connected to their workplace, it may be education.

There are plenty of personal reasons for today’s professionals to keep learning — career advancement, staying on top of new techniques and technologies, pursuing a passion and more. And learning on the job has mutual benefits for employees and employers alike. According to LinkedIn’s Workplace Learning Report, the majority of workers say that learning builds a stronger sense of connection to their workplace, adds purpose to their work and benefits their overall career progression.

Professionals on the hunt for their next job opportunity should not miss the professional development programs and learning-focused cultures of these currently hiring companies in the Austin area. Built In Austin sat down with employees from each to discuss company culture, supportive work communities, mentorship, career development and more.

Alexandra Vermeer
Senior Enterprise Account Director, State of Texas • ServiceNow

ServiceNow is a tech company with a cloud‑based platform and solutions that deliver digital workflows designed to unlock productivity for employees and enterprises.

Describe ServiceNow’s culture in one word. What made you pick that word?

ServiceNow exemplifies what it means to be truly integrative. From my first day, I felt at home — the culture is warm, welcoming and open. The people here are truly special. My team and everyone I connect with are not just colleagues — they’re collaborative, kind and always willing to help. It’s rare to find a place where every question is met with patience and encouragement, but that’s the norm here. Our motto, “stay hungry and humble,” isn’t just a phrase; it’s a guiding principle that defines how we work together.

ServiceNow’s integrative nature extends beyond teamwork. It’s seen in how the company listens and adapts to its people. As an example, after feedback from an internal survey, we introduced six wellness days a year, showing how much the company values its employees.

It’s not just the resources or efficient workflows that set ServiceNow apart; it’s the sense of belonging and genuine support you feel. The collaboration and camaraderie here are unmatched, making ServiceNow more than a job. It’s a place where you’re inspired to grow, contribute and thrive.

How long have you been with ServiceNow, and what professional growth or development have you seen in that time?

I’ve been with ServiceNow for almost one and a half years. During this time, I’ve experienced significant professional and personal growth, especially after moving from New York City to Austin. The warm, welcoming culture in Austin — and at ServiceNow in general — made it feel like home almost immediately. Working with public sector customers in Texas has been incredibly rewarding. Each agency is driven by unique missions that focus on Texans’ safety, health and well-being. Their dedication, kindness and openness to collaboration have inspired me and given me a strong sense of purpose.

I love the opportunities I’ve gotten to partner with passionate people committed to making a difference in their communities. ServiceNow’s supportive culture, perks and resources have enabled me to build meaningful relationships and make friends, adding a valuable social aspect to my professional life. Working in public sector sales for ServiceNow has provided me with more than just a job — it’s given me a sense of belonging that’s both professionally enriching and personally fulfilling. This has truly been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career.

Ryan Trevino
Business Development Representative • Arrive Logistics

Arrive Logistics is a freight brokerage that offers digital tools for shippers and carriers to streamline their processes.

Describe Arrive Logistics’ culture in one word. What made you pick that word?

My word to describe our team culture is actually a motto: “Stay humble, stay hungry.” The idea behind it is to never be complacent or satisfied with today’s results and always strive to be the best at what you do. This mindset is an important part of our culture and something that new reps learn during our robust mentorship program at the start. At Arrive, we aim to do honest work and stay humble in our accomplishments while always challenging ourselves to accomplish more.

What’s the coolest project you’ve worked on recently, and how did it help you grow professionally?

Arrive’s mentorship program currently has hundreds of active participants, with the goal of putting new members of the team on a fast track to understanding the industry, learning our operations and practicing client engagement. It is the coolest project I have worked on in the past year, and I have had the pleasure of mentoring four sales representatives. It has helped my mentees grow and tremendously helped me grow as a professional.

The mentorship program has given me the ability to pay back the knowledge I was given in my early years here to the new employees we are bringing in, and it has taught me many leadership skills that are paying off in my professional career.

Chief People Officer • AlertMedia

AlertMedia is an emergency communications company that provides tools and services to help protect people and businesses through all phases of an emergency.

Describe AlertMedia’s culture in one word. What made you pick that word?

“Care.” I am continuously in awe of the unconditional care employees show for each other and our customers. Whether someone is achieving a life or career milestone or facing a new obstacle, the way in which our employees celebrate, empower and support one another is truly unlike any organization I have been a part of. It’s that deep care, authentically demonstrated when engaging with one another and our customers, that makes AlertMedia’s culture special.

How does AlertMedia support employee professional development?

It’s an exciting time to be at AlertMedia as we are in the process of growing our global teams in the UK and Mexico City. It has been one of the most enriching learning experiences to partner across our organization to think about how we build strong, engaged global teams to help us carry out our company’s mission — to help organizations keep their people safe — around the world.

One of the many ways we demonstrate care for our employees is through enhancing employee developmental experiences to grow their skills and knowledge. As one component of this, our global people team has partnered with senior leaders across the company to build robust, tailored training programs designed to support the ongoing development of leaders in each department. These programs allow our people managers to deepen their expertise, form connections with peers across the company who have similar responsibilities, and take an active role in fostering the type of collaborative, supportive culture that makes AlertMedia a great place to work.

How long have you been with Sonar, and what professional growth or development have you seen in that time?

I’ve been with the company for just five months, a relatively short time, yet I already feel that my team’s contributions are making a difference. Personally, the start of my role presents vital opportunities for my development as a leader. These opportunities revolve around establishing a team culture rooted in collaboration and trust, implementing best practices, influencing direction and driving change. By prioritizing these areas, I enhance my professional growth and have the chance to make a meaningful difference for my team and the broader organization, setting the stage for long-term success.

What’s particularly exciting is also the overall growth within the company in this short amount of time. We hire truly fantastic, talented and intelligent individuals who bring fresh ideas and perspectives. This collaborative environment fosters innovation and continuous improvement, making it inspiring to be part of a team committed to excellence. It’s been rewarding to see how our collective efforts are driving such impactful, positive changes across the organization.
