Unicorn startup Firefly Aerospace is on a big hiring spree.
Firefly, which develops small and medium-sized launch vehicles, spacecraft and in-space services, and the city of Cedar Park reached an economic development agreement last week. Under the agreement, Firefly will create 682 new jobs with an average salary of $90,000.
This agreement puts Cedar Park and Firefly in a position to be “a leader in the New Space sector,” according to a statement from the city.
Hiring at Firefly is already underway. The company is actively hiring 74 people in the Lone Star State with open positions ranging from engineers and technicians to IT security managers.
Firefly also plans to purchase a 40,000-square-foot facility in the Scottsdale Crossing Technology Center, located about two miles north of the company’s current location.
Founded in 2017, Firefly has recently been making headlines. In February, the company announced a $93.3 million contract from NASA for a moon mission slated to take place in 2023. In May, Firefly announced it raised $75 million through a Series A round and closed a $100 million secondary transaction valuing the company at more than $1 billion. The aerospace company also plans to raise an additional $300 million after Firefly’s inaugural Alpha rocket launch, which is expected to take place later this month.
