At Scorability, the culture is rooted in kindness. Senior Full Stack Engineer Lawrence Coleman told Built In that the company “operates without ego,” a rare find in the tech world and the reason he was attracted to his role.

Scorability sticks to a no-jerk policy,” Coleman said.

The company, a recent start-up aimed at changing the way recruiting works in college sports, secured $11 million in seed funding this fall. Scorability’s technology is built with sophisticated matching and predictive analytics, helping athletes of all skill levels connect with over 28,000 college sports programs. Coleman appreciates the engineering challenge.

“Building such an impactful product from the ground up and taking it to market is an exciting project in itself,” he said.

With such innovative work and kindness as its company culture, Scorability’s open roles are sure to fill fast.

Scorability aims to change the way recruiting works in college sports by increasing efficiency and transparency throughout the recruitment process. Founded by two parents of D1 athletes, the mission-driven company allows coaches to identify, connect with and recruit players for collegiate athletics programs.

Describe your company culture in one word. What made you pick that word?

Kindness. Scorability sticks to a no-jerk policy. Everyone at the company is treated equally and with respect from the moment they walk in the door for an interview and continues from the time they join the team. This has been my personal experience, which is one of the many reasons I joined. We operate without ego, share ideas openly and work toward collective goals. Honesty is rewarded as we work closely together to achieve key milestones.

Whats the coolest project you've worked on recently, and how did it help you grow professionally?

Building such an impactful product from the ground up and taking it to market is an exciting project in itself. Getting the opportunity to build utilizing some of the coolest, most modern technologies such as GitHub Co-Pilot makes it even better. For example, through Co-Pilot, we are collecting everything into a single repository which will accelerate how fast we can write, document, test and change code through its use. We are a nimble organization, always given the ability to leverage new tools and frameworks.
