A company is only as good as the people who work there.
It’s a sentiment that reigns especially true for cybersecurity technology company CrowdStrike, according to Senior Technical Manager and veteran Tim Gohn.
“CrowdStrike’s strength is our people, and veterans are an integral part of our organization,” Gohn said.
For veterans, transitioning into civilian life and entering the workforce can pose a difficult challenge. But CrowdStrike is taking action and implementing strategies to support veterans in the workplace and set them up on a path for success.
In addition to regularly pursuing veterans as part of its recruitment efforts, CrowdStrike offers coaching and mentorship for veterans to connect with other veterans in order to make the transition smoother, Gohn said.
In celebration of Veterans Day on Nov. 11, Built In Austin caught up with Gohn to learn more about what initiatives CrowdStrike is implementing to help veterans thrive in the workforce.
What steps has your company taken to hire more veterans?
CrowdStrike regularly pursues veterans as part of our ongoing recruitment efforts. Many of the skills required to be a successful cybersecurity professional are often best developed through work in the U.S. military. Veterans with security experience and skills have been highly successful within various roles at CrowdStrike.
In addition to our regular recruiting efforts, CrowdStrike partners with organizations, like HireMilitary, that assist veterans transitioning out of the military into the civilian sector. These recruiting efforts developed a fellowship program at CrowdStrike that allows active duty service members to train within CrowdStrike for a specific role. CrowdStrike is incredibly proud of the work our veteran community has already done, and veterans will be a key part of our success moving forward.
Our veteran-to-veteran mentorship allows those just leaving active duty to see a clear path toward success, like the one at CrowdStrike.”
What internal resources do you have in place to support and empower the veterans on your team?
CrowdStrike’s strength is our people, and veterans are an integral part of our organization. We leverage our network of veterans for coaching, mentoring and developing opportunities, and we have worked with the American Corporate Partners (ACP) on a formal mentorship program for multiple years.
As we bring transitioning veterans onto the team, we place emphasis on providing mentorship. Our veteran-to-veteran mentorship allows those just leaving active duty to see a clear path toward success, like the one at CrowdStrike.
We know that transitioning from active duty to the civilian world can be difficult, so we also encourage participation in our veteran employee resource group, Veterans of CrowdStrike. We want to make the transition process as smooth and as successful as possible for our veterans, and having a supportive peer community within the organization is key.
