Following Facebook’s elaborate office renovation earlier this year at 300 West Sixth St., the company announced today plans to double its local presence with an additional site on Nueces Street.
“We have secured a lease at Third + Shoal from TIER REIT, Inc., Invesco Real Estate and Cielo Property Group to expand our presence in the Austin area as part of our continued commitment to this thriving technology community,” said Katherine Shappley, Facebook regional director of small and medium business for North America and head of the Austin office. “We're delighted to be here and excited for what the future holds.”
According to 512tech, Facebook’s new spot will consist of 10 floors fit for about 1,500 employees over 231,000 square feet. For comparison, about 700 employees work out of the existing office which is 120,000 square feet spanning four floors.
Facebook’s first move to Austin occurred in 2010 with a launch team of seven. Today, its Austin office is one of its largest, behind its headaquarters out of Menlo Park, CA, which employs over 5,500 people. Like Austin, its headquarters is rapidly expanding at an even faster rate.
The company did not release details regarding the positions and roles that would fill the new space; however, its West Sixth Street office supports teams from finance, HR, sales and 10 other departments.
Construction began on the 29-story Third + Shoal building in early 2016 and is slated for completion by the third quarter of 2018.
