Direct Global Commodity Manager - Remote in the US

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Direct Global Commodity Manager will own the global sourcing activities for direct materials and services at Invitae. This role is responsible for setting in place agreements that allows scale and flexibility for Invitae’s continued accelerated growth. This individual is directly responsible and accountable to ensure timely deliveries for internal/external customers along with project deliverables. Works closely with the functional leaders on sourcing/procurement needs and requirements to align activities. Builds out and ensures cross functional strategy to drive aggregate leverage, achieve lowest total costs, assist in effective asset management, continuously improve quality, delivery, and lead time performance. This role requires commodity strategy analysis, strategic supplier negotiations, and driving project management initiatives. The selected individual will be directly responsible for supplier/commodity selection and negotiations. The selected individual will ensure these activities are completed on time and in accordance with company policies, departmental guidelines, and operational needs.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The scope of this role includes Invitae’s full range of direct sourcing
  • Key collaborator with functional leads charged with generating early insights into direct material and service requirements 
  • When direct material and services are specified, charged with seeking opportunities to consolidate/aggregate requirements/spend by facilitating collaboration with functional leads and with approved suppliers
  • Maintains subject matter expertise in our strategic direct commodities and with our strategic suppliers to develop insights on software and service offerings to be considered by our functional leaders to enable the best quality and reliability. Leads in the development of a global supply chain strategy to optimize quality, delivery, and costs based on economies of scale across the different and ever-growing Invitae businesses/sites
  • Provide key insights in the demand planning phase of our Sales, Inventory and Operations Planning workflow to enable our supplier base the visibility to our requirements and ensure sufficient capacity and capability to support current and future growth
  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, Information Security (and other functions as needed) to ensure new suppliers are vetted, approved and agreements for managing service levels are in place per applicable requirements
  • Proactively collaborate with Supplier Quality to assess, mitigate and/or resolve any supplier-caused quality issues or (potential) risks
  • Ensure material availability for qualification trial runs and for commercial launch
  • Ensure new materials are properly set up in our ERP system with Blanket Purchase Agreements for streamlined order processing for the procurement teams
  • Drive the ongoing business/performance reviews in collaboration with stakeholders of strategic suppliers to maintain compliance and qualified status 
  • Amend existing supplier service level agreements, as necessary, to ensure material availability to support new product launch timelines and or product growth needs
  • Collaborate with Procurement Manager & Buyers to develop KPI’s to help effectively manage our strategic commodities


SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Advanced negotiations with suppliers across different industries
  • Advanced quantitative analytical ability
  • Influence within a matrixed organization 
  • Project management, including stakeholder communication & timelines
  • Adaptability to adjust to changing priorities and timelines
  • Self-driven - can quickly learn new things and establish strong working relationships, results-driven, execution focused
  • Preferred: multilingual and able to effectively work across different cultures in a professional environment to support the company’s international expansion

  

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • BS/BA in Business Administration, Operations/Production Management, Supply Chain Management, Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of 10+ years relevant experience
  • Procurement experience in regulated industries (ISO13581, FDA, CLIA, CAPP) preferred
  • Certification (APICS CPIM or equivalent) preferred but not required
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or above preferred but not required
